Was Jesus an ecologist?
The simple answer is no. There was no such thing as ecology during Jesus’ lifetime.
But were he alive today, and a witness to the things that humans are doing to the planet, “what would Jesus do” about climate change?
The simple answer to that question is plain; across the globe spiritual leaders are in agreement: Climate change is real,it presents an imminent threat to Earth, and it’s the responsibility of good and conscientious people everywhere to do something about it.
In the fascinating “Microscope: Just Say No to Denial, Part 3,” Pastor Dean Simpson of Grace Lutheran Church converses with me about what is meant by “neighbor,” the place of Christians in delicate biophysical systems, and the communal overtones of personal salvation.
